I have several Tilley hats that I like, but the stiff front brim on this Shelta hat is a game changer. I can now use flip up magnifiers and clip on flash lights to make tying on flies, changing tippet, etc so much easier. Need a stiff brim for those items and I much prefer hats with a full wrap around brim over baseball style caps. Besides the brim, this hat is cool, well ventilated, quite water resistant, and provides plenty of sun blocking coverage. The strap is well designed and keeps the hat on in strong winds. The size adjustment toggle in the back works great. This has become my favorite fishing hat. Probably will become my favorite hiking hat as well.
I don’t normally leave reviews unless something disappoints me or doesn’t do what it says – this is an exception. I have spent most of my life on the water sailing and paddling and always had the same problem with sun hats – the brim never held up in the wind but especially when it got wet.
I originally ordered a hat based on my measurement of my head but it was a little too snug. Shelta had a simply exchange process and got the size up in a few days. I was a little worried that because I sized up, maybe it wouldn’t really work in the wind but I just got back from a trip to Ireland and put my new hat to the test on a rainy hike with 40+ mph winds. The Seahawk stayed put just like it says it will. I was worried that I’d have to tighten it to headache inducing levels to keep it on but not so. I was amazed.
I will say the look of the brim is a little different from what I am used to but form definitely follows function and this functions just like they said it would. Good job.
Man I’m so glad I finally bought this hat. Kicking myself a little for not doing it before. The hype is real. Great ventilation and very well thought out design.
Love my new fishing hat. I was wearing a Tilley but the brim was always flapping up and or down and I just got tired of it. I have a XXXL sized ha Was and it is VERY hard to Tonya hat that fits. First time I wore it I got compliments on it. Keep up the good work!
Favorite Shelta thus far. Comfortable and noticeably cooler than the Seahawk or Landhawk. Hopefully they add more colors to this model. Orange would be my choice.

Love the hat – great for being out on the water boating and paddling. My head is a bit longer front to back, had to go up a size compared to the standard sizing based on circumference.
These are the best boonie style hat for wind available. Design, materials, and built are top notch. But they are not cheap. I’m not sure if I would consider them reasonable. But they are absolutely great boonie hats.
It accompanied me on charter w/ Big Game Fishing Charters outta Snug Harbor RI. It performed like a champ in the variety of weather conditions we encountered & stayed firmly on my head thru rain & wind. And kept the sun off me in the earlier part of the trip.
